Mrs J - Eype

Originally, these were two cottage gardens, partially separated by a stone wall, resulting in a rather disconnected dog-leg. South-facing, with wonderful views of the sea, surrounding fields and hills, the site was windy and exposed to the weather but with immense potential.

The Brief:

Connect the divided gardens, creating a more natural flow between the two with a focus on the beautiful views, also a dining area with some protection from the on-shore wind whilst still maintaining the views. Replace the old shed with a Gabriel Ash Grow and Store greenhouse and make it the focal point of a productive vegetable garden.

Before We Started…

The narrow gap separating the small garden from the main garden completely disconnected the two, and the larger garden sloped substantially in two directions, but much of it was a blank canvas – very exciting!

As Things Progressed…

The design used curves to echo the surrounding countryside and create movement within the garden.  Soil was moved and sculpted to accommodate the slope, with wide steps leading down to the greenhouse, and to create raised beds for the vegetables. We also dropped the level of the greenhouse down a little in order to give some weather protection and avoid interrupting the view.

Alan’s new furry friend is just one of the perks of the job!
