Mr & Mrs B - Barton on Sea
The original garden contained some very large shrubs and several bay trees planted along the boundary fence, plus an area of grey paving which required an uncomfortable step down into the garden, when accessing it from the house.
The Brief:
Create a contemporary garden with a Mediterranean feeling, accentuated with architectural plants and softer perennial planting. Remove all the grass and address the issue of the uncomfortable difference between the indoor and outdoor levels, while making the garden feel larger. Include a garden room for all-year use and a hot tub.
Before We Started…
Here, the outside needed to work with the inside, which was modern and spacious. From the house, there was an awkward step down to the garden which effectively separated the two from each other - there was no flow. Plus, the client wanted a Mediterranean feel which included a hot tub and contemporary garden room.
As Things Progressed…
As lawns come up and machinery rolls in, it is not uncommon to experience a moment or two of nail-biting! However, between Sarah and Alan, someone is always on-sight to ensure the vision remains firmly in the crosshairs… and to make the tea, if needed.
