Mr and Mrs C - Poundbury

This was a sunny, but windy, blank canvas; just lawn and concrete paving surrounded by high, brick boundary walls and a three-storey house, also made of brick. The garden area is small, with a shady, recessed corner and steep steps leading up to a narrow, paved terrace, and overlooked by neighbouring properties.

The Brief:

Reduce the dominant effect of the brickwork, particularly that of the retaining wall below the raised terrace. Create different dining and seating areas and generally optimise the available space. More privacy required!

Before We Started…

With nothing to stop the eye going directly to the boundaries, the garden felt small and overwhelmed by the vast amount of brickwork.

Adding more to this small space will make it look and feel larger!

As Things Progressed…

Transferring and marking out the design drawing on the ground takes time and accuracy, but also shows the clients exactly how the space is going to work.
