Mr & Mrs T - Poundbury

This property was under construction when the Clients contacted us. The builders were still setting their levels in the back garden before laying the required patio and path, prior to sign off. The front garden consisted of two small, asymmetrical garden areas, planted with simple landscape shrubs by the builders. Then we took over. We built the back garden as Phase 1, followed by the front garden as Phase 2.

The Brief:

Phase 1 - The Back Garden

Create a pretty, plant-focused garden with deep borders and soft, romantic planting, while including the clients’ existing garden furniture and a lawn area for their two small dogs to enjoy.

Phase 2 - The Front Garden

A contemporary style with a bold impact to set-off and enhance the front entrance of the house. Focus on ensuring the planting creates year-round interest without incorporating any grass areas.

Phase 2: The Front Garden

Before We Started…

Phase 1 - The Back

It’s not uncommon for us to become involved during the construction stage of the property, even before the divisions of what will be the garden and what will be the driveway have been set out by the builders. We are not fazed by this.

It can be difficult for the clients to visualise what could be achieved, and the relationship between client, designer and landscaper is one we pay great attention to, working closely with them at all stages.

Phase 2 - The Front

The builders had partially planted the front garden with shrubs and laid a coarse wood chip mulch and whilst is was adequate, it gave no hint of what it could become with the right expertise. Nor did it have the ‘wow’ factor the clients wanted.

As Things Progressed…

Phase 1 - The Back

It can be hard for a client to imagine what will grow out of this, but things soon take shape and a garden begins to emerge out of the mounds of hardcore and machinery detritus!

Phase 2 - The Front

Serious pots require serious anchoring and Alan devised an ingenious method to both stabilise and safeguard them - or maybe he was just looking for honey!
