Mrs J - Poundbury
This property was a brand new build with a small garden; only 6.3m wide and 9.8m long at its longest point! A blank canvas can be great to work with, but, with its paving, turf, manhole covers and exposure to the wind, this one came with some challenges.
The Brief:
Create a pretty garden, suitable for three generations of the family to enjoy, including different places to sit, planting to attract birds and pollinators, a water feature and an area of lawn. Some shade from the sun was also required and ‘please make the garden look bigger’!
Before We Started…
This small garden felt dominated by the presence of the house overlooking it and unfortunately the hot weather had taken its toll on the turf, plus we had a few manhole covers to disguise!
But, we love a challenge, and the transformation is all the more impressive and exciting for the client when we start with a not-very-happy space and turn it into a thing of beauty.
As Things Progressed…
Curves were the answer! Even with a digger in the garden, it started to look bigger. The pergola removed the top heavy effect of the house, enhancing the building as well as giving dappled shade.
